The AHEAD2020 main goal is to integrate and open research infrastructures for high energy and multi-messenger astrophysics. We offer a wide program of transnational access (TNA) to the best European test and calibration facilities and training\/mentoring on X-ray data analysis and computational astrophysics at AHEAD2020 astronomical institutes and data centres. Moreover, we offer the possibility for scientists and engineers at all expertise levels to visit European institutes of their choice through our visitor program call. Proposals will be peer-reviewed by specific <\/span><span lang=\"DE\">AHEAD<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">2020 selection panels and ranked according to their merit. The access costs for the selected facility will be covered by AHEAD2020 as well as travel costs and daily allowances for the successful applicants. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Didefault\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Due to specific EU rules the number of days allocated to users not working in a EU or associated country\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Hyperlink0\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/research\/participants\/data\/ref\/h2020\/grants_manual\/hi\/3cpart\/h2020-hi-list-ac_en.pdf\"><span lang=\"PT\">[1]<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> is constrained to be less than 20%.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Didefault\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">This Announcement of Opportunity is organised in four distinct Calls as described below.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Didefault\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span class=\"Nessuno\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Important note on COVID-19 outbreak<\/span><\/b><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #e81ab4;\"><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Due to the current situation of the pandemic, this AO will include the possibility of remote access (e.g. on-line training) for calls 3 and 4. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\">In such case the service is offered with no need to travel to the host institute. The user <\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">application should clearly state if this is acceptable and if any help with software installation<\/span><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"> is required<\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">. If selected, <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\">the user<\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"> should discuss details with <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\">the <\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">host institut<\/span><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\">e.<br \/>\n<\/span>For call 1, remote access for experimental facilities has been considered in limited cases, mostly for testing small samples and pending evaluation of the feasibility to be carried out after the proposal.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span class=\"Nessuno\">* <\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><b>Disclaimer<\/b><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\">: <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #e81ab4;\"><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Because of the<\/span><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"> current<\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"> uncertain<\/span><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"> situation<\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">, in the coming months and till the C<\/span><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\">OVID-<\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">19<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">outbreak will be definitively solved, any remote\/in person TNA access approved\u00a0<\/span><\/span>as part of the AHEAD2020 project may suffer unpredictable cancellations or delays due to laws and regulations by the various national, local, etc.\u00a0<span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">authorities put in force to control\/mitigate the outbreak. The next AO (cycle 2) will open on early July, 2021.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Didefault\">Traveling v<span lang=\"EN-US\">isitors are expected to be covered by <\/span>their own <span lang=\"EN-US\">travel and health insurances.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Didefault\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Didefault\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Call 1. Trans-national access to ground and test facilities<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Didefault\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Nessuno\"><u><span lang=\"EN-US\">Aim<\/span><\/u><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">: to give access to some of the best European ground test and calibration facilities relevant for high-energy astrophysics. Such facilities are used to test and\/or calibrate new technology space hardware as well as hardware developed for specific astronomical space missions, but can be also used in a wider context of space applications. Additionally, we are opening a new opportunity for teams to propose only a site or training visit independent on whether it will be followed on by a test campaign. For example, the purpose of such visit could be to explore the suitability of the facility for their studies, or to receive adequate training prior to the execution of a campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Didefault\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">For <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\">this call <\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">for which an \u201calways open scheme\u201d is implemented it is very likely that, <\/span><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\">until approximately <\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">September 2021, only remote access can be offered to the guest users resulting in some limitations on the kind of measurements that can be performed and the kind of samples and\/or hardware that can be tested.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Didefault\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Nessuno\"><u>Procedure<\/u><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">: proposals will be submitted through website (see link below). The primary aim is to widen opportunities for scientists across Europe to exploit both European-funded and international X-ray astronomy facilities and X-ray data archives. Trans-national access to <\/span><\/b><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><b>Computational astrophysics<\/b><\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Didefault\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">This new TNA will provide new opportunities for European researchers to access free of charge complex computational astrophysical simulations, models and tools to simulate, compare, and analyse X-ray and gamma-ray data<\/span> and support analysis of multi messenger data<span lang=\"EN-US\">. It will be of great interest to relatively inexperienced users in small institutes, and to observers that aim to gain new knowledge in computational astrophysics to model their data.<br \/>\n<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">The user<\/span>s<span lang=\"EN-US\"> will be encouraged while present to join in the usual research activities of the host institution (seminars, discussions of recent techniques and results, updates on current\/future space missions and external training opportunities). The latter activities will be particularly important for users from small research centres to ensure they maintain contact with the subject once they return home.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Didefault\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Nessuno\"><u>Procedure<\/u><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\">: <\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Users will submit an application via a web form on this TNA web site which will permit a preference for a part<\/span><\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\">icular host institute <\/span><span class=\"Nessuno\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">(allowing for spoken language and detailed scientific requirements). The unit of time for a visit is normally 5 working days. Iterations between the user and the TNA site contact point will take place by e-mail before the visit to ascertain their experience in computational astrophysics and to refine the requirements and needs of the user for his\/her visit, and thus to tailor the tools made available by the TNA site.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span>Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, remote access will probably be offered in this call.
